Goal

The author’s second review of the rewritten first article (translated from Italian):

  • Subtitle: keep “Agents have changed a lot since 1995. Their problems, not so much.”
  • The opening: bring back the old paragraph (“Today ‘agent’ usually means…”), and keep the new personal paragraphs with two cuts.
  • Docker’s documentation: link it, two or three references, where the sandboxes are explained.
  • Piece 1’s check: go back to the old wording of “literally a flag” and the paragraph after it.
  • The pieces section: restore the heading “Five easy pieces”; keep the new “four kinds plus learning” text.
  • The name “hub”: find a better one (“intro” sells it short), and explain why it was called that.

What we did

  • The article (7c5f942), now 1,991 words:
    • The old opening paragraph leads again. The personal paragraph follows, adjusted only so it doesn’t name the book twice.
    • “Oddly modern” ends where the author cut it, and the quotation joke is gone.
    • Just before the merge, the author removed the echo of “its vocabulary still fits”: the paragraph now ends “I found I’d remembered right!”
    • “Docker Sandbox”, “microVM” and “in the cloud” link to Docker’s overview, security model and cloud sandboxes pages. Each page was checked to exist and to say what the link implies; the security model calls the microVM “the primary trust boundary”.
    • The old wording is back for the flag and piece 1, and so is the heading “Five easy pieces”.
  • ADR-0016: the first article is the overture (94032f0). The author chose it among overture, prelude, piece 0 and keeping “hub”. The folder is now articles/00-overture/, moved together with its git-ignored PNG master and drafts.
    • Updated: CLAUDE.md, the README, the publishing checklist, the illustrations README, the bibliography, gen-header.py’s messages and series.yml.
    • Not rewritten: earlier ADRs and journal entries keep “hub”, as written.

Commands that mattered

make article-check # the overture at its new path: ok, 1,991 words
make site-build # 31 pages, with ADR-0016

Decisions

Dead ends and surprises

  • A broken link in Docker’s own docs. The credentials page points to /ai/sandboxes/configuration/security/, which returns 404. The security model lives at /ai/sandboxes/security/. Checking every link before putting it in the article is what found it. Recorded in references/sbx-notes.md.
  • Renaming a folder with git-ignored files in it. git mv would have moved only the tracked files and left the PNG master and the drafts behind. Moving the folder and then letting git detect the rename kept everything together.
  • A missed “hub”. The first search-and-replace pass missed one inside a longer sentence of the illustrations README. A second, word-level search found it.

Who did what

  • The author: chose which version of each passage to keep, approved the subtitle, asked for the Docker links, and chose “overture”.
  • Claude: applied the edits, picked and checked the documentation links, proposed the names, did the rename and wrote ADR-0016 and this entry.

Next

  1. The author: read the overture once more; merge PR #6.
  2. Claude: draft piece 01, which goes out with the overture (ADR-0007).
  3. Example 02.
